Terms of Use
Terms for using Global SharePlay, this website, and related services.
Last updated: 18 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and [Legal entity name], doing business as Global SharePlay (“Global SharePlay”, “we”, “us”) for:
- this website;
- the Global SharePlay Chrome extension;
- the hosted join/wait page;
- the sync service.
If you do not agree, do not use the product.
The product
Global SharePlay is software that helps people watch YouTube together by synchronizing playback in a room. It is provided as is. Features, room limits, and supported browsers can change.
YouTube is operated by Google. Your use of YouTube is governed by Google’s terms and policies. We are not affiliated with Apple, Google, or YouTube. “SharePlay” in our name describes the kind of watch-together experience; it is not an Apple product.
Eligibility
You must be old enough to use YouTube and Chrome in your country and to agree to these terms. If you use the product for an organization, you confirm you can bind that organization.
License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the extension and related services for their intended watch-together purpose. You may not reverse engineer the extension except where the law says you may, scrape the service in a way that harms other users, or wrap Global SharePlay as your own product.
Accounts and rooms
There are no Global SharePlay accounts. A nickname and room ID are enough to join.
Rooms are ephemeral. They may cap at 10 people, idle out after about 15 minutes, and disappear when empty. We do not promise that a room ID stays yours forever.
The host can approve, deny, or remove members and lock controls. Do not use a room to harass people.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the product to violate YouTube’s terms, copyright, or other law;
- attack, overload, or probe the sync server or this website;
- impersonate others in a misleading way;
- inject malware or attempt to hijack another user’s session;
- use join links or the wait page to trap people in deceptive ads (we may show a labeled display ad on the join page after AdSense approval; you may not add your own overlays).
We may refuse, rate-limit, or block access if we think these rules are being broken.
Ads and analytics
The marketing site may use Google Analytics only if we configure it, and only after consent where required. The join/wait page may show Google display ads after AdSense approval, with a choice between personalized and non-personalized ads. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
Chrome, YouTube, Google ads, and Google Analytics (if enabled) are third-party services. Their outages or policy changes are outside our control.
Disclaimer
THE PRODUCT IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted sync, absence of bugs, or that a room will finish a movie without a disconnect.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, [Legal entity name] AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, GOODWILL, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF GLOBAL SHAREPLAY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE PRODUCT IS LIMITED TO FIFTY US DOLLARS (US $50) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE PRODUCT IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (CURRENTLY ZERO, BECAUSE THE PRODUCT IS FREE).
Some places do not allow these limits. In those places, our liability is limited to the minimum the law requires.
Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against claims that arise from your misuse of the product or your content in a room (including nicknames and videos you choose).
Changes
We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page. Continued use after the “Last updated” date means you accept the new terms. We may also stop offering the product.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that location have exclusive jurisdiction, except that you may have additional mandatory rights in your country of residence.
Until [Legal entity name] is replaced with the registered company name, treat that placeholder as the named operator on this page.
